coolEnigmo 2 : Bruce All Mighty!

When Enigmo (1) came out it had a really cool gameplay concept of getting something from point A to point B (water, lava, oil) using a variety of simple tools. The graphics for such a game were absolutely stunning! Gameplay was addictive, and you just had to keep at it to prevent yourself from feeling really stupid.

Enigmo 2 picks up were the first game left off BUT added a 3D environment!
For those of us that are lucky enough to get the new Intel iMac (me me me), the Universal build really takes advantage of all that the Mac has to offer. The graphics are absolute eye-candy!

You have a choice of screen resolutions:

Yielding stunning results:

And:

Game play is quite challenging, especially with the addition of a Bonus timer. I don’t think I will have any use with that as my times are a little Pre-Cambrian.
Now that it is in a 3D environment, it takes a little getting used to manipulating your drums and gutters and other redirection tools in 3 axis. The developers have done an outstanding job in bringing the learning curve way down. Different coloured circles encircle your tool allowing you a graphical representation of which axis you are going to change. And you thought flying the Space Shuttle was easy!

You can rotate and zoom in and out with a 3 button mouse, or use your 1 button and the keyboard. This ability to control your puzzle allows you to get up really close and see exactly where you have to position your tools.

This leads me to the sound effects and audio track. As you rotate in space, the sound moves with you. Play this game at night with head phones and, well, you might get the munchies! The background music is non intrusive and gives you just enough of a soothing effect to totally immerse you into the game.

They have included a “Kiddie Mode” which is more suited for 6 year olds and up. My 3 1/2 year old can use the controls, but the gameplay is too technical. Not to quam too much, but it would have been nice if they made some really simple levels. Ah, nice segue to my next observation… The Level Editor.

If it is not there, then make or modify your own. Great idea to keep this game alive and fresh! The editor is quite intuitive and it will take you no time to construct your own inter-stellar maze. It is really cool to hear the sound effects as you construct your masterpiece!

For ~ $30.00 Yanky dollars you really get your moneys worth. The attention to detail, the very challenging game play, the ability to create your own levels, and coming soon, the ability to download other user levels, makes this game from Pangea Software a definite “Must Have” for the Mac user. Many people seem pre-occupied in playing ever complex 3D rendered Combat/Slasher games, that “Simple” games like Enigmo 2 and the recently reviewed Professor FizzWizzle are a definite breath of fresh air. Lets use our minds for a change.
